Thanks to MagiMike, who sent out the
email to get up all together on this Fair February 22, 2004 afternoon.
Weather was not the best in the end as it started to rain, but none of
us left going home wet. The weather forecast for this day was not listed
as the perfect day for an outdoor event, but like always, the weather
forecast made the day out to be worst then it really was. It was only
73.4 °F / 23.0 °C, and partly
cloudy out, personally, I think it was just right!
We all had a great time and it was
fun meeting with more Segway owners here in Houston. I was hoping for
more owners, but still the group was just fine. The meeting point was
Eleanor Tinsely Park
along the banks of Buffalo
Bayou. We introduced ourselves to one another and had the opportunity to
try out a right handed Segway and that alone was a surprise. You know
just because the control was on the right side instead of the left side,
and you think it wouldn't be any problem in driving, well guess what, no
one who tried it found it easy, we all made the same error, we turned it
the opposite way then we intended to go. Nothing wrong with the
controls, just the operators.
Anyway, after waiting 10-15 minutes,
we headed on to the trails from the Eleanor Tinsely parking lot, over the
bayou to the Memorial side of the bayou, and west towards Shepard. There is a
foot bridge over Memorial that every one but Dave went up, Dave took a
group photo of us at the top. Then it as up to the Shepard bridge and
back to the other side of the bayou and back. We passed the doggie area
of the park where their where many dog owners and the dogs running all
over the place, of which none came to bother us. Played around the water
fountain and on the side of the hill and headed to the parking lot. The run placed us at
about a 6 mile jog and 2 hours later of which we all had fun and got
to know each other a little better. After half of us departed for
the day and Dave, Mike, Patrick and myself made a quick run to the MetroRail downtown
and by then the winds were picking up and the temperature was
dropping, with a very light mist coming down. So with Batteries being on
the lower part of the scale, we headed back to Eleanor Tinsely Park, and
added almost 2 more miles to our run. We then
said goodbys and loaded up before it began to really began rain.
